sandiegoland 0 Posted February 21, 2007 Noobs first overnighter. Nice make-shift luggage. It was my longest motorcycle ride to date when I rode over to see my Grandfather in Sun City, Arizona in May of 2005. When I pulled up to his house both my Uncle and he were in the garage. I just pulled straight in and stopped five feet short of them. They both looked at me like I was from Mars (the tinted face shield hid my face). Neither had a clue that I even owned a motorcycle. I flipped my shield up and my Uncle got the biggest grin (he had ridden Goldwings and such for years). A fond memory... My grandfather passed away 8 months later... It was a great adventure competing with the best riders in the world.It was an unreal expereiance being there with riders from all over the globe. Hanging out partying and competing. It was a great adventure competing with the best riders in the world.It was an unreal expereiance being there with riders from all over the globe. Hanging out partying and competing. Shot of the KTM perched above Oriflamme......shots of yours truly and my son on the mtn bikes in Tahoe - Awesome trails up there - (Hammer - have you ridden the Rim, Flume and Mr. Toads mtn bike trails in Tahoe?) I still have the video of your exlamatories after riding. Within a week you had one ...Here's my quick story in chronological order: Dad bought me a '69 Yamaha 125 'oil-pumper' when I was a wee lad. Saw this one at Willow Springs Raceway : Bought a new 1982 KDX 450 (first year of Uni Track for KDX). I just recently donated it to Malcolm Smith for his vintage motorcycle collection My "Dune Days" were fun-filled on the KDX w/ a paddle & this Quadzilla Bought this '88 Honda NX used (rare / odd bike). Heather & I had lots of fun on it. Now an employee has it This '04 FJR 1300 was tons of two-up fun. Not enough lean angle, so we recently sold it My True love to this day. The KTM 950 Adventure is great at lots of stuff , including two-up street blasting My most recent dual-sport toy is this '03 KTM 525 MXC Looking into the future to the Triumph Tiger ... Outside of needing a Wilbers shock & perhaps some fork word to suite our 2up madness, the bike is amazing. Since I'm an old man who likes to ride comfortably upright, with pillion, scraping pegs & keep up with my sport group ... this Tiger is purr-fect. It was 1960 something when i got my first bike.. and I still remember how sweet those banana seats felt.. . . . Then I got my brothers WARDS RIVERSIDE when he got his first car. Once i uncorked the the muffler, and tapped the heel/toe shifter,I was flying man. . . . And then like most everyone here, I had my share of the DT's 125cc / 250cc thats my grandmom wrapin up the throttle, to check the point gap. . . . Then since roger De'Coster had a susuki TM' I was gonna have to have one But he was to scared to ride with me. . . . Then the jump to light speed....125cc YZ Monoshock .. Yes only one shock..WOW !!! did I ever mention I invented the (Front) Kickstand Nack-Nack. . . . HAMMER TIME........79' yamaha TT 500... plated it.. you could feel every stroke.. in your teeth.. . . Then came GLAMIS........and honda oddsey' and a ATC 90 . . wasnt alot of extras availibul for the odseys, But I must of had 5000 plus in my 3 wheeler. . . Why would anybody Put that much into a ATC 90. . . . . ............................................... BIG AIR ........................................ . . Then to the 250's ...way to fast for back then, before they figured out the supension.. had this 82' ported polshed ect, ect. ect... . . . How fast was it.............. Heres me missing my front 4 teeth, and my new man'ly chin scar.. . . then bought the new 250 with supension and watercoled, 85' no pic' , and got a stage 3 seperated sholder.... the walnut you see on my right sholder today.. . . Being no dummy,,, it was time to get back on a bike.. honda xr 600 And started racing D-38 desert on it, and quickly realized unless your willing to become a idiot. your not going to do well . . . So I picked up a 87' husky 430 crosscountry...and started riding enduros. not only do you need real riding skills, you need brains too (to keep time) . . . aint getting any younger, so back to a duelsport,, KLX 650... Plated It. with the perimater frame and the inverted froks, it handled like a 250' . . . And as of today, I'm on a Kaw'ee klr 650, afer all the best bikes availible, Why a KLR' Its the only true 50'/50 duel sport bike in my book... if you have to do a 100 miles of dirt and single track. or if you have to do a 100 miles of all street... It does both' medium well, with the least amout of sacrafice both ways.. a more dirt type bike is going to be better offroad ofcourse a more street type bike is going to be better on pavment. . . . . .......................................And Besides.......... Nothing Runs Like A Deere... ................................... . Oh Ya.. And a couple of street bikes...... honda/ nighthawk,,, honda/ goldwing.. If you want to take a bunch of Crap from your friends and co-workers.. Go buy a goldwing before your 60' .
