superstition this weekend 3/7 is the national hare and hound. Anyone else wanna head out and race or watch the pros? should be good, slight chance of rain on fri, sat. Got to get my clutch working, but briana and I are panning on heading out. If you are going to go to 1 d38 race this is the one to go check out.

was planning to it again, but too many things going on to properly/logistically prepare and finish (thats the most important part)

so I for one am foregoing this one,,,as well as the first 2 that were held under epic moist conditions (yea I miss them!!) Maybe at least one of the late year H&Hs up north will get done

For all that are doing it conserve on the L1 and push on the L2!! For those watching pick a tecnical/ugly/rocky spot and watch how the big dogs get through that stuff

See you on Sunday Brad, unfortunitely I won't have my bike. I was going through it today and realized the radiator was leaking. Last race I saw coolant dribbling out before heading out on the last loop but I thought It was just a hose problem turned out I need to replace the left side radiator. Ordered one today but will take a few days to get in. I hope I can access the tower roads to get to the OTB check point. On the bright side we found out that the reason Braxton's bike stopped running was only from a kinked vent tube- doooh.

oh boy, that was uuuuuhhhhh interesting. they could have named that one the bone yard. So many stranded bikes  The pros commented that the A loop was harder than the B loop this year cause of all the mud and water crossings at low elevation. I went to rescue some folks from the mud pits and almost didn't come back with my bike. :o That was the knarliest desert day I've ever seen. Be glad u weren't there robert. I sat the race out and pitted half way through the first lap at the alternate pit. Briana went for it and DNF after stopping to stay with a kid with a broken leg. On the bright side we were right across from team green and team orange so that was cool. Turnout was low but I'm glad we went out and checked it out. I'lll get some pics up soon.

sound like a 125 or 250 2 stroke was the ticket for this one.

the mud was caked on so thick that bikes stopped moving. They weighed 100lbs more than without the mud. Yes a small bike would have been better for most. The course was in better shape when the fastest people came through. The rain didn't let up and as time went on the course got worse. I took briana's 200 into the carnage after the race to try and save my buddies, several did the walk of shame out with no bike. The course was littered with abandoned bikes. I'm sure there are lots of guys out there right now cursing themselves trying to get thier bikes unstuck. It was surreal riding around the course with abandoned bike after abandoned bike. It was like one of those movies where everyone was dead and I was the only survivor. I almost got the 200 completely stuck, but I was able to get it out of the mud and into a wash and moving. The mud kinda flung off once I got out of it and moving. The mud wasn't like a small section, it was like 5 miles of mudhills in plaster city west \ painted gorge area. I never seen anything like that before. That race truly was the things nightmares are made of.

if you want some good entertainment, go read on the d38 site, i'm sure there will be pages of stories by now.

That race was awsome. two of my guys made it! one did the walk of shame had to leave his bike, when blm was picking everyone up. cudos to BRiana foe staying with josh. i ended up gassing at the fuel stop then headed to the tressle for the headhunter show. help a guy who rode with no goggle was his eyes. helpd a guy who was out of fuel. helped a kid call for help who blew up his bike. help a guy that blew his bike up take it to the pits. pulled a few guys out and a trailor to the road, got my self stuck when i broke a vacuum line to the hub and didnt know i wasnt in 4wd. then to find out the guy that helped me was the dad of the kid i gave gas to at the tressle.. (desert karma full circle). saw brad at the pits. and tree at acorn but didnt want to stop eating to say hi. sorry.

all in all a mudtastic time! :);)

just checked in with another finisher, on L1 he said he was riding with the front wheel completely locked up with mud like a sled runner up front for at one time 100 yards in a rut/groove. Of course he also said the L2 was so great! That was a real adventure race, cant wait to see the results/dnf rate

thats what happened to me, front wheel caked up and locked solid. Throttle pinned, rear wheel spinning, bike going no where. I pushed and tugged, finally layed it down, pulled the rear end around with all my might and pointed it down hill and aimed it at a gravel wash. Bike was revved to the moon, I'm going < 1MPH and bike is puking coolant big time. After about a half hour of struggling with that thing by myself in BFE, I got it in the wash and escaped imminent doom to the wifes bike.;)B):) :) ;):)

I understand that the AMA is going adjust to allow finishers of L1 that are 2 loop Nat and other 2 loop club riders that found L2 closed to be counted as finishers in proper order (no DNF in results).

Sounds very fair considering the circumstances and the concerns of the D38 organizers for sending riders out onto L2 as time was closing in to late afternoon and rider safety was on everyones mind. IMHO this is good call from the AMA ref. as there are plenty of riders chasing Nat points that travel from here to Lucerne to Idaho etc to compete. RN
