FIM Sanctioned Electric Motorcycle Road Race Series

This electric bike thing is gaining momemtum very fast, for 2010 (very soon) the FIM will sanction a road race series featuring electric motorcycles. Very interesting for me and for those that have been pointing to many years in the future for this electric thing to take hold. That future is now.

This should be good news for the electric motorcycle, racing breeds development. The Isle of Man TT also had an electric bike class.

imagine the spectacle of 20 bikes... all lined up, with their fingers on the switch... the christmas tree is counting down the seconds...and the pack takes off in a mighty "whir"

I like the idea...but this is the kinda thing that makes people not watch racing.

When Thunderboats went to turbine engines, the view base shrunk, cuz it was no longer big giant blown V-8 or V-12's putting out 1000hp that were so loud if you didn't have ear protection it was deafening. People wanna feel the motor, the sound, all that good stuff. People still watch dag racing for that same reason, they wanna feel the power of racing even though they aren't actually participating in it themselves.

I think you guys are right, to a certain extent... part of what making watching races fun is: "I could NEVER ride/drive one of those things!"

Electric race bikes, with computer controlled wheelie/spin control, slipper "clutches"... what's next? Gyroscopic controls to avoid the dreaded low side?

Even a trials bike has some thought of... listen to him blip that throttle, brap!, and he's up on the rock!
