carguy 1 Posted November 12, 2006 Small turnout for our desert ride. Me, Joliet, Pyro I have to say I had a awesome time and had two great riding partners. Now some pictures. We were soo fast in the desert, life stopped to wait for us. Did I mention there was sand? then hard trails. Oh yah, Rock!! Unknown route, exploring required. All is good to move deeper. Some technical riding . Did I mention sand? And rock?? Here is to the last cowboy that did not make the route. Yippekiaaamofo!! Well some more pics. Convenient desert parking waiting to regroup. Back to Ocotillo for food & Beer. We did our arobics for the day and decieded to head for home. There was some exploring on the way home in IN KO PAH. Then a few beers and a end to a great ride. I love this stuff!
KIP 0 Posted November 12, 2006 Looks like a great ride -- wish I could have gone but these 12 hour night shifts are ruining my weekends. I managed an 18 mile freeway ride from work in San Clemente to north Oceanside. Next Feb I will be able to ride every other weekend due to a schedule change. I am looking forward to that. Kevin 0 Posted November 12, 2006 I spent the weekend working on my ATK. Now I am ready to ride the deep sand. The sand just wasnt too much fun on the BMW. The light ATK with the Scotts Dampner makes it a breeze..Ready for the Desert!!

Joliet 0 Posted November 12, 2006 Carguy, great pics. Awsome trail. I would love to do that one again, after I get my new skid plate. I can't wait to see where we were on google earth. Thanks for for all the pics and leading us on an epic adventure. Pyro, did any if your video come out? Was your fork leak just a loose screw? Thanks for bringing the radios, they came in handy. It was great to meet you. What a ride for our first of many. I highly recommend this trail to those of you that like a challenge(and a workout). This trail should be done with 40% trials bike, 40% desert bike with paddle, 20% enduro = 100% excellent dual sport adventure. I suggest a light bike with a good skid plate. I would not do it alone, or if there is a good chance of rain. Am I the only one that is a little sore today, sad to say but I am not used to that kind of workout. carguy 1 Posted November 13, 2006 Paul, load the pic to photobucket. Copy the url for the pic. When writing the post click the "IMG" icon, the tree, and paste. Just preview before posting to confirm. It is that simple. Ok guys I am pissed about having to work all weekend but I did get a new camera and now I am trying to learn how to post pics - Here was the extent of my Saturday riding. husky4me 0 Posted November 13, 2006 Looks like U guys had lots of fun and some challenge! I was really interested on checking out Palomar Divide, so that's the ride I went on.. but I'll try Ocotillo next time... I really want to ride my bike in open spaces and sand to see how it works.. My two stroke KTM300 EXC was SUPER on sand! I did a little riding on sand at McCain Valley the trial's comp day, but not really much, and no open spaces... Kevin, I saw another ATK from Wayne on our ride to Palomar.. Cool bike! That's why two bikes is better than one.. Your ATK will probably do much better on the sand.. Our ride yesterday to Palomar Divide would probably been much better in your BMW (easy trails and much road).. I put a little pillow on the seat of my husky, but still after my road ride from Julian to Chula Vista with 2-wheels, my butt was killing me ... It was cold and those grip warmers U got would have been nice...
Kevin 0 Posted November 13, 2006 [ ... It was cold and those grip warmers U got would have been nice... Martin, I have Grip Heaters on my ATK also!!!. I only ride the ATK in the nasty, especially the sand areas!!
pyro 1 Posted November 13, 2006 That was a great ride and a DEEP SAND adventure! Oh, and did I mention ROCK. Great pics Carguy and a bitchen adventure ! Thank you for everything. And no, you're not the only one that's sore Joliet. My shoulders and arms are beat! They got a serious workout on this one. I thought I had ridden some sand before, but this route was a whole new level. . . Man it was really deep in some areas and stretching for long distances. It was a new experience for me and I feel like I learned alot. That is some absolutely awesome desert terrain. We even found a gold mine that I decided to stake a claim on! There is one heck of alot'a stuff to explore out there for sure. (Actually, that's an understatement.) Thanks again for a fantastic run you guys. You are both great riding partners. I agree with your recomendations on re-running that route Joliet, and as I 'm sure Carguy will agree: 1) Don't try it alone 1.5) Carry plenty of water 2) Have a good skidplate 3) Bring BBQ, Steaks, Beer, etc etc etc . . . . . ! No problem on the fork leak, just another loose screw. My camera is totally fryed. The sand was too much for it to handle. No worries because version 2 is already built. I hope to have that one ready for action within a month. The camera itself is practically bullet-proof. There should be some footage from the opening part of the ride still locked up on the memory card. We'll see. I'll let you know. Ride On Amigos!

pyro 1 Posted December 17, 2006 Here is my fendercam footage from the beginning of the ride, before the camera went dead. I got about 15 minutes of footage, so there's two videos about 7.5 minutes each ===>
