KTMrad 617 Posted September 3, 2008 Write-up is continued in the MEMBERS ONLY FORUMS.... Got into Port Orford Sunday night at 8:30pm, nice little night ride by myself, on the Oregon Coast, end of the Trans America Trail, after 2 weeks and 1 day from the start of the trail ride. Had fun at the local bar, met a chickie and her friends, from Vancouver, WA. Exchanged e-mails and will stay in touch. Left Port Orford Monday and meandered down 101 along the coast, to 199 north back into Oregon, to Cameron's house in the nothing of a town named Selma. I rode right thru it and passed it by, got to Grant's Pass realizing I must've ridden right by Selma Went riding with Uncle Cameron today, did some nasty, rocky jeep trail, dropped the 950 about 3 times, nothing new for her. I think my body is starting to feel a little fatigued after all those days of trail riding......but tomorrow will be no riding, maintenance day with oil change and air filter. I need a new rear tire (3rd one), but have to wait until San Francisco to pick it up at Scuderia Ducati / KTM. I will leave Cameron's Thursday and head to the Lost Coast of NorCal for exploration and dirt riding.......I'm looking forward to being solo now, and camping some too. Anyway, what a fantastic, awesome, spectacular adventure it's been........it will take me a week to recuperate and go over everything in my head as I look at the photos.......over a thousand so far. I have quite the little adventure left as I head home, doing coastal mountain stuff and then over to the Sierra, see Dale in Bishop, then home for the weekend of the 12th. So far, been on the road 3 weeks today, odometer trip meter just turned 4000 miles. I'll post some pix and video while I'm here at Cam's house. The trail took us on some old, overgrown trails in sections, which were sometime pretty challenging on the big bikes.At the end of video, you hear the bike stall and I laugh, as I tipover on the trail ....After moving my tripod, I set up the camera to shoot uphill as I went up. Hope you have your sound on.....you can hear me try to get going 5 times at the beginning of the video, then finally get moving up the steep, loose rocks and make it to the top........there's a long pause in between, so you can fast forward towards the end as I walk down to get my camera afterwards. KTMrad 617 Posted September 3, 2008 to video on my last day of the TAT, just before dark, heading towards Port Orford. I rounded a corner and there was a huge Bull Elk and he started to run along ahead of me, so I reached into my tank bag without stopping, grabbed my camera, turned it to video mode and rode one-handed while holding the camera, catching the elk running ahead for almost 2 minutes.........not a great video, but a very cool experience. The elk was bigger than a horse, with a huge rack about 4 feet tall above his head !! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

KTMrad 617 Posted September 5, 2008 Here's a few from after completing the TAT. Visiting and riding with Uncle Cameron (SDAR Co-Founder). On Wednesday, I had to go to Medford, Oregon for bike oil, air filter, and while there, got some new rubber mounted on the rear. Not a TKC-80 like I wanted, but I was leary of the existing rear tire making it all the way to San Francisco to get another TKC, so now I don't have to worry about the rear and don't have to rush to SF. After getting my tire and maintenance supplies, I stopped in the historic little town of Jacksonville. MMMMMM.............. Nice selection Lake Selmac, couple of miles from Cameron's house Riding today........on top of a ridge with an awesome view Uncle Cameron.........studly adventurer Just a cute little lake pic Jungle Cam and nice waterfall Action shot.......Cam on his 1200GS Signing off until I get home around the 12th.................. They live in the sticks.....I almost don't want to leave.....asked them "how much you want for rent" ? It is beautiful up there and right now the riding is perfect. In another month their riding season will be quickly comming to an end and our peak riding season will be just getting started. There is always some give and take. unclecameron 0 Posted September 6, 2008 the only problem living here (besides it's miles to EVERYWHERE, like need a spark plug - drive an hour) is there's really no place to go to "Get away from it all", we ARE "Away from it all" Just took missus unclecameron to dinner, and on the way back found a nice single track down to a deserted swimming hole with no one around...try that in Coral Canyon Nice to have the KTM around to share dirt duties, I think the Piggie was getting lonely, y'all stop by if'n yer' comin' this-a-way, we got an empty spot in the garage and a LOT of nice riding...now back to work. P.S. I got some video of Randy throwing himself underneath his bike to save it from getting damaged when it fell with him on it in a rocky section...nudge him and maybe he'll throw up a link Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
