DigDug 0 Posted August 31, 2008 Well, there were three total riders for this ride. Spaugh, papaalex and I met at the P-N-R and swapped all the bikes to my truck. We figured it'd be the most comfortable. We beat feet up there and pulled into the parking area and got ready to ride. It was in the 70's temperature wise and nice and cloudy. I can't wait for winter to come for more of those temperatures. We even got a little bit of drizzle at times on the ride, and it was almost a little chilly at some of the higher elevations later in the day... In all, perfect conditions!!! We geared up and headed up our first route, Gold Mountain. At the staging area, ready to roll: Spaugh working up Gold Mountain: Alex coming across the boulder field: More Gold Mountain: Spaugh riding one of the tougher sections: We managed to get up and over Gold Mountain and hit some fire road over to John Bull. I know there are some pictures of me in the following predicament, so I'll post mine of others first: We hit some more fire road and some mild single-track and wound our way over to Delamar Mountain. I didn't get any pictures here - I was too busy bulldogging, falling, and trying to get my bike up the LOOSE hill. I'm sure Spaugh got some shots... We rested for a bit at the top of the climb then decided to hit the trails again. More fire road, some more single track, and then some more fire road. Our loop brought us back by the truck, so we decided to hit the truck and fill up on water for the second half of fun. Through the Cactus Flats OHV area along some cool quad trails there. More fire roads out to Heartbreak Ridge. All three of us made it up and over Heartbreak Ridge without too much trouble. From there it was getting late and we were getting tired. We hit some of the rocky trails that took us up to the fire road, then zipped out to the highway. A nice 10 mile highway ride back to the truck was a great way to cool off and end the day. We had to cut out the last two hard sections of the route due to time constraints. We WILL be going back to do them... Who else is coming??? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

We WILL be going back to do them... Who else is coming??? I recognize that climb up Heartbreak Ridge.....the next Hardway after that was supposed to be the toughest part of the ride....we skipped it the day of the event......might have to go back and grab that with you Good job guys! Yup... The next hardway (Lightning Ridge I belive) was the one I cracked my clutch cover on when some bleep-hole cut me off and I had to grab the brakes going up a rocky section. We were running short on time so had to cut it out as well as Onyx Summit (probably the hardest section for me during the event). We WILL be going back!!!! Aren't you supposed to be picking up a bike by the way? I think I might take a run down to Cycle Gear and see if they have any big, Adventure bike knobbies in stock... Tall gears, big motor, and a super knobby non DOT tire got me up **** hill with enough time to catch a half hour of videos of Alex and Dug stumbling up a 100 yard seciton. It was STEEP and LOOSE. Really really really loose. Doug had a pirelli scorpion piece of poop tire that was doing him no good. Now keep in mind, a month or two ago, DigDug did the 130 mile tough ride, this time, we only did about half of it and we were burnt. I think this was the best ride I've ever done. A little rocky but nothing that we couldn't get through. Here are the movies of Alex and Dug getting up son of a ***** hill. both guys stuck Doug going no where Doug being considerate of Alex You see a pattern here. I'm starting to be amuse at this point and these guys are getting pissed. Please turn up your volume. Doug takes another run at it Doug giving me a double single finger salute Keep in mind, my camera sucks and this hill is STEEP. Doug loops it Alex gives another go and makes it VOLUME UP So Alex, what do you think about that hill??? volume up DigDug gives it another go half way. Finally we push Dougs bike the last 1/4 of the way up the hill. What do you think Doug?/ Doug did you loose some teeth??? missing teeth? Here is the "flat" spot of that trail where we finally all parked our bikes and rested. Alright, well I had fun watching you guys stuggle. Sorry. I had my share of falling and pushing I'm going to come back to this area and camp some time. East side of the lake near the OHV area on the way to the heartbreaker. Oynx is the section I was thinking of.....nasty Yep, leaving in an hour for dinner/airport Tweaked my planned route/tracks yet again......thinking I may take Sean's advice and head south to Colorado Springs so I can ride up Pikes Peak before cutting over to dirt tracks at Buena Vista which lead to Lake City/Silverton/Ouray (Pikes Peak would be a good lung/carburation test at 14+K '!) Maybe I'll see ya over in Bull Head City/Laughlin area on Friday night?.....I'll ring you along the way to let you know my progress.....possibly taunt you with a few picture messages as well Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
